Larger target areas on mitts and shields are great for kicking exercises with partners. Most famously they are used for the Korean art of Taekwondo, in modern kickboxing and for the ancient art of ring wars in Thailand: Muay Thai.
Thai Pads are handled by trainers who grip the upper end of the gear and attach the bottom to their forearms. Students can kick those pads with hard kicks improving their strength, accuracy, focus and balance. The trainer is able to hold the striking pads over a long time as the shock is well absorbed and divided over the entire lenght of the hands and forearms. Real leather covering makes Thai pads last for extensive periods of time.
Kick targets and kicking shields are mainly used to train kicks on long and medium distances to the body. Sidekicks and Backkicks in kickboxing are perfect examples for use. Front kicks to the mid section are also easily trained with them. They may also be used for low kick training.
